 Merthyr no show frustrates youth

With Merthyr only having 8 players the game was called off leaving the boys gutted.  It was up the top for a good work out and then some team bonding.  Not such a bad day after all.

 Deri Get Smashed!

If this was a boxing match it would have been stopped in the first round as Bedlinog Youth kicked off their season in awesome form thumping a young Deri side 57 - 3.

The  writing was on the wall in the opening seconds with Tito smashing the receiver from the kick off.  Bedlinog then stole the ball and after several charges the ball went wide for captain Terry John to brush off would be tacklers to cross.  Deri's response came in the way of a finley struck penalty but Bedlinog  quickly dashed any hopes of an upset scoring again with 1 minute of the restart.

Deri did not give up and their young team did try to create attacks but were starved of the ball by the dominant Bedlinog 8.

Further tries came from Nick Thomas, Ashley Conrin, John Ross(2), Alex Veale, Josh Hannaway, Cory McCabe and Steve Nevelle who eventually scored after earlier diving over the wrong line!

This was a good performance but the Foxes will have to work a lot harder when the face Merthyr at the Rec on Saturday, but they go into the game with their tails up knowing if they play like this they can beat ANYONE!

Terry gets captain's job

Influential winger Terry John was named yesterday as Bedlinog Youth team captain.  The 'Blonde Bomber' had a tremendous season last year  finishing as second top try scorer and is widley tipped as a possible future First XV captain.  Coaches Lee Beynon and Andrew Henry are sure it's a role he will take in his stride. " All the players look up to Terry he leads from the front, never drops his head and is always up for it," said Beynon.

"He's a natural leader," added Henry, "he's got all the tools for the job."  Terry takes over from Luke Evans who has moved into the senior squad.

Speaking at his first press conference John said "It's a great honour for me being captain in such a big and successful club as Bedlinog. I used to come here and watch my hero's like Paddy McNally and always wanted to be part of it.  I'm looking forward to this season, everyone's training hard, we are going to be a force to be reckoned with, not just the youth but the whole club. We were on fire at the end of last season and I'm sure we can carry on from there."
